5 Smoothie Yogurt Recipes for a Healthier You

Easy smoothies can be made with the use of yogurt. Sometimes, itð€™s even better than regular milk. Why? Well, basically because yogurt can contribute a lot of good benefits to the one with an intake of it. Live cultures in yogurt help prevent the elimination of good bacteria present in the body. It actually helps the body to fight off infection, and assists growth in children due to its calcium and B vitamins content. It is also a healing food, especially after coming off from gastrointestinal disorders like diarrhea. When you think about it, having a smoothie anytime is as good a time as any, especially if youð€™re using yogurt as your base. You can even add protein powder or yeast (although it would taste a bit weird) if you want a power protein smoothie. But the best yogurt smoothies are usually the ones that utilize fruits. So here are five recipes that are good to the last drop: -          Blend 1 cup of natural or plain yogurt, a cup of apple juice, half a cup of blueberries, half a cup of strawberries (or you can have a mix of raspberries too), 1 banana and 2 cups of ice. Blend and process until smooth. Serve immediately while still cold. -          Combine all of these ingredients in a blender: 2 cups of chopped fresh fruit of your choice (my kids love berries, so I usually make a mix of strawberries and raspberries), 1 cup of plain yogurt, 1 cup of crushed ice, some sugar and vanilla extract (to taste, but is also optional). Blend and process until smooth. Serve immediately. -          Blend 1 cup of key lime yogurt, half a cup of sliced lime, three-fourths cup of low-fat milk, half a cup of raspberries and 2 cups of ice. Blend and process until smooth. Serve immediately. -          Combine the following in a blender: 1 small banana, 1 cup of apple juice, 1 cup of plain/natural yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 and one-fourth cups of mango slices. Blend until smooth. Add a cup of crushed ice and blend. Serve before it gets hot. -          Combine 1 and a half  cups of milk, 2 ripe sliced peaches, 1 cup of peach yogurt (plain yogurt would do), one-fourth cup of honey, a teaspoon of vanilla, half a teaspoon of cinnamon, one-eighth teaspoon of nutmeg, and 5 ice cubes. Blend and process until smooth. Hog it all to yourself, or have a smoothie party. Whatever you decide on, Ið€™m pretty sure on one thing: You would definitely enjoy your yogurt smoothie, without the guilt of putting on some pounds.

Learn About Boiling Sugar
The clarifying and boiling of sugar to the different degrees must be considered as the key to all sorts of stove working, and I will give here the method used for clarifying sugar. The pan used must be perfectly clean and bright. Whisk two whites of eggs in one pint of water; break 30 lbs. of good lump sugar into small pieces and put it into the pan; pour over it 6 quarts of water, set it on a clear stove to melt, but be careful it does not blubber and boil before it is melted; when you see it rise it is then boiling, and must be stopped immediately by putting in 1 quart of water; when it rises again add the same quantity of water, and so on two or three times; this prevents the scum from boiling into the sugar and makes it rise to the top. Draw the pan to one side of the fire and take all the scum off; let it continue to simmer. Keep adding a little water to make the remaining part of the scum rise. By this time the scum will be very white and tough, which also take off if the sugar appear clear. Dip in your finger, and if a drop hang from it, it is of the first degree, called smooth, and may be put by for use.

The Old Mill Restaurant's Corn Chowder
This is very close to the Corn Chowder served at a restaurant in the Smokie Mountains.  Although I haven"t been there for years, I assume the restaurant is still there and if they are, surely they are still serving their famous chowder.  A lady who worked there showed me how to make this so I am not sure if it is their exact recipe or something she helped me come up with based on her knowledge of the original.  Whichever, it is a great chowder that you are sure to enjoy!
