The Bacon Explosion was publicized by Jason Day and Aaron Chronister in December 2008 on their "BBQ Addicts" blog. Subsequently, it became an internet phenomenon, generating more than 390,000 hits and 16,000 links to the blog. The other day the guys from BaconToday.com contacted me in search for some barbecue bacon recipes. Of course I have plenty of great uses for bacon in a barbecue pit, but the longer I thought about it, the more I wanted to step it up a notch and clog a few arteries for those guys. Behold, BACON EXPLOSION!!! Hereò€™s what youò€™ll needò€¦ 2 pounds thick cut bacon, 2 pounds Italian sausage, 1 jar of your favorite barbeque sauce, 1 jar of your favorite barbeque rub. Obviously pork is best served by itself, but if you feel the need to make this meat monster into a sandwich, try placing a couple Bacon Explosion slices on a warm Pillsburyò€™s Grands Biscuit. What Is Direct Grilling?
As the name suggests, direct grilling involves cooking food directly over a fire, usually three to six inches above the flame. This method is used to cook relatively small, thin, tender pieces of food - steaks, chops, chicken breasts, fish fillets, vegetables, tofu, sliced pineapple - foods that cook quickly, benefiting from the searing heat of the fire.
