Turn out on wire cake rack to cool and remove, waxed paper at once. Spread with caramel icing. Date And Nut Bread 2 cups all-purpose flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup butter 2/3 cup sugar 1 egg 1/2 lb. finely chopped dates 1/2 cup chopped dates 1/2 cup chopped pecans 2/3 cup milk 2 tablespoons vinegar Sift and measure flour. Resift 1.5 cups of the flour twice with baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cream butter. Add sugar gradually, creaming thoroughly. Add egg. Continue beating until fluffy. Combine remaining 1/2 cup flour with chopped dates. Add dates and chopped dates. Add dates and chopped pecans to creamed mixture, mixing thoroughly. To milk, add the vinegar slowly, stirring rapidly. Mix well. Drop by spoonfuls on slightly greased hot griddle. When bubbles appear turn cakes and brown other side; do not turn second time. Makes 15 to 18 cakes.
